Four Simple Words
The EGSP® Leadership Model is a dynamic tool for driving change
The Fundamentals
From an early age, we’re all taught four simple words: Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, and Poor.
They don’t require a detailed explanation.
Everyone understands them.
Even a four year old gets it.
Written as Excellent, Good, Satisfactory and Poor, these four simple words will help you become a highly effective leader.
Allow us to explain—
Excellent is where we’re going
It’s important to show people where we’re going. It gives hope. It inspires. It gives us a sense of purpose. Without a clear vision of where we’re heading it’s hard to know if we’re going in the right direction.
Good is what we expect
Good is what we expect on a day-to-day basis. It’s what we’re here for. It’s what we get paid to do. It’s what we recruit people for. It’s meeting a specification.
Satisfactory gets us over a line
Satisfactory sets a minimum standard. A tick in the box. A compliant document. It’s acceptable as a minimum. And helps communicate what we expect from others—and ourselves.
Poor is unacceptable
Poor is what we don’t want to happen. It could be your current level of performance, or a place you don’t want to go. Either way, everyone can agree what poor looks like.
Master your interpersonal skills
At TWELVE SCHOLARS we use these four simple words as a framework to create culture committed to Excellence.
We call it the EGSP® Leadership Model.
EGSP® can be used to raise standards and get things done.
EGSP® can be used to reset expectations and measure success.
EGSP® can be used to avoid setbacks and build resilience.
Once explained, people never forget.
