The Thick Red Line

So you want to achieve Excellence? But where do you start? If like most people, you’ll want to begin by defining ‘Excellent’. Because surely that’s what we’re aiming for. Wrong.

The reality is most people struggle with defining ‘excellent’ from the get-go. They often aim too low and in hindsight, their definition of ‘excellent’ is often considered ‘good’ or worse — ‘satisfactory’ by others. When working in groups, people often get confused and have very different expectations of what ‘excellent’ actually looks like.

If there’s ONE lesson to take from the EGSP Framework™, it’s to ensure that you know the difference between ‘satisfactory’ and ‘poor’. Spend time working on these differences. Ambiguity is the enemy. Grey areas will prevent you from succeeding, so be very clear.

When you put your mind to it, there’s a big difference acceptable and unacceptable behaviour. Make it obvious. Draw a thick red line.
